PARMA, Ohio -- A longtime Parma Public Housing Agency employee is under investigation amid allegations of improper handling of the agency's finances.

The scheme was discovered by Parma Public Housing Director Lev Kulchytsky, who immediately brought it to the attention of Mayor Tim DeGeeter, who then immediately notified Parma Police. The matter remains under investigation.

Said DeGeeter: "This employee was in a position of trust, and apparently, that trust was deliberately violated. We have taken immediate action to have this investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We want to know how this happened and how it could have been prevented. The administration will ask for assistance from HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) and conduct an exhaustive review of the agency.”

HUD was notified because the agency exists solely on Federal Funds from HUD. Special Agents from HUD have been assigned to the case, and the United States Attorney General has been notified as well.

The employee is not being identified because the case is under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
