PARMA – Mayor Tim DeGeeter issued the following statement in reaction to a former Parma Public Housing Agency employee being federally sentenced to 16 months in prison for stealing about $232,000 in federal funds over more than six years:

“We are pleased justice has been served, and we are especially pleased to hear full restitution is being made to the Parma Public Housing Agency,” the mayor said.

“This closes a chapter that began last fall, when the administration took immediate action after the theft was discovered.  Since that time, we have strengthened the agency by putting in place a new executive director who is implementing tougher controls and working with HUD to ensure best practices are being followed to provide the best possible service to individuals and families.

“I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank Parma Police detectives as well as federal investigators and prosecutors for their efforts in the pursuit of justice in this case.”
