PARMA, Ohio – To honor those Parma residents who served in World War II, Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter will recognize them as September’s Citizens of the Month at the City Council meeting on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

City Council and other Parma elected officials will also honor the veterans with proclamations.

Media members are invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony.

After former Citizen of the Month honoree Ken Elhert suggested that a WWII veteran should be recognized in the same way, Mayor DeGeeter wanted to honor as many as possible. The administration has been making every effort to locate remaining veterans to invite to the meeting so they can be duly honored.

“Ken’s idea really resonated with me, and these veterans deserve our greatest respect and honor,” the mayor said. “I really hope we can fill our City Council chambers with residents who feel the same way and who want to show their respect.”
