PARMA, Ohio- Mayor Tim DeGeeter is encouraging Parma residents to shop locally on Small Business Saturday, a day sponsored by American Express that encourages people to do some holiday shopping at local small businesses.

Local shopping will not only help small businesses in Parma but also the city as a whole. “We know how important a healthy small-business environment is to a city's economic success, and we do all we can to encourage small business success in Parma,” Mayor DeGeeter said. “I think residents who make the effort to shop locally will be hugely rewarded with literally a world of options for unique gift and food ideas.”

Parma has plenty of options for local shopping. The Ukrainian and Polish villages are especially nice for unique gift ideas, as are the many other small businesses throughout Ohio's seventh-largest city.

Small Business Saturday takes place this year on Nov. 24 between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year, over one hundred million people nationwide came together to shop small at local businesses in their communities.
