PARMA, Ohio -- With the holidays just around the corner, Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter wants to remind you that Parma’s Energy Efficiency Rebate Program has money remaining for qualifying holiday rebate purchases.

So when you buy an eligible Energy Star rated appliance, such as a refrigerator, dishwasher or clothes washer, you can get $150 back in a rebate … per eligible appliance! Five-hundred dollar rebates are also available for whole house insulation.

“You can’t beat this if you need to make an appliance purchase, and it’s especially helpful around the holidays,” DeGeeter said. “The main thing about it is that these are energy efficient appliances, and that’s important for all of us.”

Most Energy Star-rated appliance purchases are eligible for a $150 rebate. There is a $750 per household maximum since 2010, and to qualify, purchaser must document that the old unit was taken away by the store at which the new unit was purchased. Or, a buyer can document that the old unit was recycled for scrap.

Appliances can be purchased anywhere, but Sears Appliance & Hardware at 7490 Broadview Road, is Parma’s only retailer of such equipment. The mayor encourages purchasing locally as well, saying, “Residents can score a win-win by purchasing rebate-eligible appliances and also doing it in Parma.”

Complete details about the program, including downloadable paperwork that must accompany receipts, are available on the City of Parma home page at www.CityofParma-oh.gov (click on Energy Efficiency & Conservation Residential and Commercial Rebate/Loan Programs.) Funds for this program come from the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
