PARMA, Ohio - Parma’s annual Safety Fair, a community event for Parma-area residents to learn valuable safety information, is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Parma Justice Center, 5555 Powers Blvd., with the cooperation of the Parma Fire Department, Parma Police Department, City of Parma and Parma City Council.

In addition to the Safety Fair, prescription medication disposal and a community shredding event will also be held on the same day and in the same area.

The shredding event will be held in the parking lot of the Parma Hospital Medical Arts Building #4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Parma residents should bring identification, a driver’s license or utility bill, and also a donation for the Parma Hunger Center of canned goods or non-perishable food items. Prescription drug collection will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Donna Smallwood Activities Center behind City Hall. Participants are asked to remove all labels from medication bottles.

The Safety Fair will feature flag-raising by the Parma Police and Fire Honor Guard, a grease fire education demonstration, tours of the Police Station, holding facilities and firing range at the Justice Center and K-9 demonstrations. There will also be appearances by the SWAT/Bomb Unit, Motorcycle Patrol, and the Cleveland Metroparks Mounted Police.

Also, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., children’s fingerprint ID cards will be available.

“This is a great annual event that Parma and area residents really look forward to,” Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter said. “It is educational and fun for the whole family. I am looking forward to enjoying it with my family.”

From 11-12:30, the Safety Fair also serves as the Mayor’s Out event for April. During this time, the Mayor is available to Parma residents who would like to speak to him about the community.
